APAture 2016: Here
Closing Reception
Kearny Street Workshop, the Bay Area’s hub for Asian Pacific American arts, proudly presents APAture, a multi-day, multidisciplinary arts festival featuring a lineup of some of today's most exciting emerging artists from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Closing Reception & Artists Discussion
at Arc Gallery & Studios, 1246 Folsom St., San Francisco
Saturday, October 15, 2016, 12–3pm
Co-presented by Arc Gallery & Studios
After two incredible weeks of APAture, we're going to be hosting a SILOGS BRUNCH. Silog is a type of Filipino breakfast that has eggs, rice, tomato, and some sort of meat or vegetable. We've got the rice and eggs, all you have to bring is your preferred silog!
From 1-2pm we are hosting an artists discussion. All attendees are invited to participate. The theme is "Beyond Representation". When Cathy Park Hong and Oliver Wang were in discussion last year at KSW, there was a moment where Cathy, in response to the idea of representation for Asian American artists said (to paraphrase) "I don't care about representation, I care about interrogation." That instead of clamoring for visibility within our current structures she was looking to question and challenge them. We want to build off of that and talk about the concerns of APA artists, today, that go beyond representation and visibility.
Come join us for some good food and good company. Visit our exhibition one more time. We'll have a button making station and drawing table. Let's close out APAture 2016: HERE, together.
Admission: FREE (suggested $5-$10 donation; no one turned away for lack of funds)
