Discovering the Muse

 

KSW presents a two-part introductory workshop on music fundamentals taught by APAture 2014 featured artist Cynthia Lin!

 

INTRO TO UKE (SOLD OUT!) An absolute beginner’s course in playing the Hawaiian stringed instrument, the ukulele! We’ll start with the basics: how to hold and tune your instrument, basic chords, and basic strumming patterns. Then, we’ll learn a handful of easy and fun songs. You’ll be rocking and crooning in no time!

*Bring your own ukulele.

October 20–December 1(No class on November 24)

 

INTRO TO SONGWRITING This course will set you on the road to singer-songwriter success! Topics that will be covered include: song analysis, common chord progressions, how to craft your melody and lyrics, and developing good habits as an artist. You’ll walk away with at least one original composition that is ready to perform in front of a live audience.

**Basic command of your instrument of choice is required.

About the Instructor: Cynthia Lin is a San Francisco-based singer/songwriter who is passionate about teaching others to follow their passions and pursue a creative life. As a performer, Cynthia is known for her commanding voice, electric stage presence, and distinctive point of view. Her latest album, Midnight Echoes (released July 2014), features the Blue Moon All Stars, her 8-piece Bay Area "little big band" with an eclectic, indie-acoustic sound. Cynthia has also released 3 solo albums and toured nationally. As a teacher, she enjoys sharing her love for music and learning, and has a keen sense of what each student needs. Cynthia has coached singers, songwriters, and actors from NYC to the Bay on all aspects of performance for over 10 years, including the multi-talented international artist Taiyo Na who credits his vocal work with Cynthia as “the core to any valuable and effective performance I have given.
